Arcade Longplay [231] Double Dragon

Played by: Georgc3

Marion has been kidnapped by the black warriors and demanded the lee brothers to disclose their martial arts secrets in return for Marion’s freedom. The Lee brothers retaliate by going on a mission to rescue and save Marion. They use whatever technique they have like basic punches, kicks, jump kicks, elbow strike, head butts, as well as weapons. That comes to their hands. The Lee brothers must pursue the gangs through city slums, industrial areas, and the forest reaching out to the black warriors’ hideout to confront big boss, Willy the gunman. This is easily the best version of the original Double Dragon.
I used to play this game a lot in the arcades. At the very last level where the final boss, while I was attacking Abodo, he grabbed and threw me up in the balcony where Willy the gunman was standing. Wow, did not notice it. It gave me the shortcut to beat him at an instant. After defeating Willy the gunman, all other enemies start to retreat. I only managed to kill one enemy which was Jeff preventing him from escaping. I assumed the difficulty was played on medium or hard since I did not check the settings at all.
Tried playing this game on MAME-Rerecording but the emulator movie file desync so I had to play it on MAMEUI with directing AVI recording instead.

  1. I didn´t remembered the game was so laggy….but as a Kid, I guess it helped me to pass it… know, more time to think what move could I use.

  2. Ive never seen a game where you transition from stage to stage directly like that before. Thats bad ass. I like the tone of the mission 3 music here. Much slower and reggaeish compared to the sms version which i also like.

  3. Downloaded the arcade version on my Switch and it's sooooo much better than the NES one. I thought the NES game was great as a kid, but now as an adult I see all the short comings and flaws. No two player mode for the main game, the graphics are significantly downgraded, a weird "level up" mechanism that feels weird for a fighting game, only two enemies per screen and they are the same enemy, awkward platforming sections that again are out of place for a fighting game. The arcade game is so much better, the only compliant I have for that version is the slow down that happens in different parts.

  4. What if the Red car in the garage at Matin belonged to a married couple and they where driving minding their own buisiness until they came across a bunch of biker gangs that where smashing the town somewhere in America and drove them right off the highway only to leave the driver's wife dead so now he has to get revenge on the dangerous Road Gang and save the world? Wouldn't that be awesome?!

  5. What I love about these old games it the simple midi music is so memorable. Over 30 years later and I’d still recognise the game in a second.

  6. Man, I played this a lot in the arcade as a kid and thought I knew all the tricks. Learned a few new ones here!

  7. I remember seeing the arcade cabinet at my local Safeway. Back then, even grocery stores had multiple arcades and Double Dragon was a common one.

  8. I always remember before executing the elbows the characters would make a "hmmf" sound. I never hear this on the emulated versions.

  9. There were three things I hated about this game. One, hit detection was just bad. Second, you'd punch an enemy at the same time he hit you and you'd both go down. That happened so frequently with me that I thought it was how the game cheated. The third thing I hated was that the game would often slow down as if it didn't have enough memory to play itself. It slows down even in this playthrough. I liked it except for those three things.

  10. El truco de agarrar al de la mera en el balcón
Pffff era la locura todos gritando en las salas arcade

  12. Only in japan it says i remeber that haha, got i loved this game was one of my favs till i experienced N.A.R.C

  13. Everything play very slowly, not fun.

And ugh, the gay characters design, they look from some of those ugly 80's Hollywood movies.
